Hill River Design was founded in 2019 in Gorlago, a quiet town in the foothills south of Bergamo, Lombardy. The name reflects our location — where the hills of the Bergamo pre-Alps meet the rivers of the Po Valley — and our design philosophy: the strength of mountains combined with the adaptability of water.
Our team of 5 designers covers the full product design spectrum: mobile app design, website design, web application design, brand identity, and UX auditing. We work with FinTech, healthcare, manufacturing, SaaS, and e-commerce companies across Italy and Europe.
We chose Gorlago because great design does not require a Milan ZIP code. It requires focus, craft, and understanding of the people who will use what we create. The hills provide the focus. The craft comes from 75+ products and years of deliberate practice.

Evidence Over Opinion
When stakeholders disagree about design direction, we do not vote or defer to the highest-paid person in the room. We test with users. Research data resolves debates more effectively and fairly than authority or consensus.
Familiarity Over Innovation
We innovate in the product, not in the interface. Users should not need to learn how to use basic UI patterns. Navigation should be predictable. Buttons should look clickable. Forms should work the way forms have always worked.
Speed Over Perfection
A good design delivered on time is more valuable than a perfect design delivered late. We work in iterations: ship, measure, improve. Perfection is the enemy of launched products.
